Cortisol is a hormone with an important role in the human body. Cortisol is secreted by adrenal glands and has a role in the immune system function, the function of the inflammatory system, the regulation of blood pressure, but one of the most important roles of cortisol is linked to stress forming. So, cortisol can be formed in response to stress, but a high level of stress will not be the only reason why cortisol will be released, in increased levels. In fact, you should know that cortisol usually has higher levels in the morning and lower ones at night, in normal conditions. 

Due to the fact that cortisol is most likely going to be released into the bloodstream when stress is experienced, cortisol is commonly known as the stress hormone. Although cortisol increasing is associated with stress forming, which is not considered to be very positive for the individual, when the hormone has an increased level in the body, positive effects such as a boost of energy, an increased memory capacity, as well as a lower sensitivity to pain and an increased function of the immune system, are going to be experienced. Stressful events can happen to all of us, on daily basis, and the reality is that stress is part of our every day life. Work tasks, family events, school projects, or different important situations in our lives can cause high levels of stress. Cortisol is one of the most important steroid hormones secreted by our body, and it is produced by the adrenal gland. With a significant part if many functions of our body, cortisol has many effects, both positive and negative. In the morning, you will probably experience the highest cortisol level, and in the evening the lowest. However, this does not always has to be the case, as cortisol is mainly released in response to stress. Unfortunately, stress has become omnipresent nowadays, as most people experience it at one point or the other. This is why it is important to learn more about the effects of cortisol.

Starting with the bright side, if the cortisol level increases gently, there are some positive effects going on. Well, you will definitely feel energized, as a boost of adrenaline will enter your body. Leading from one thing to another, as a result, your memory functions will be improved, and your pain sensitivity will be lower. Another positive effect of cortisol is that it is extremely beneficial when it comes to maintaining homeostasis in your body. These positive effects happen when the cortisol level is higher than normal. When the cortisol level is at its normal rate, this hormone has crucial roles in regulating the blood pressure and the inflammatory response. Moreover, cortisol is also important for the immunity system, as well as for the insulin release in our body and for increasing the blood sugar level, too.

So these were the positive effects of cortisol. Moving on to the negative side, a high level of cortisol can lead to hyperglicemia, high blood pressure, a weaker immunity system or chronic stress.Your cognitive performance can also be affected, as well as your bone density. You can see thus that trying to maintain a normal cortisol level is mandatory, if you want to prevent these harmful effects. Clearly, you have to leave stress behind, because it does not do you good. If, however, you do not think that you are over-stressed, but your cortisol level is high, a visit to the doctor is advisable, to see if you do not have any problems with the adrenal gland.

Cortisol is a hormone released by the adrenal gland and has important functions for our body. Cortisol influences the blood sugar level and the blood pressure. Cortisol is also important for bone production, for suppressing the immune system and is also important for the metabolism. A fetus cannot have lungs if there is no cortisol, so it is essential for our bodies development and for our life. The levels of cortisol vary between day and night, when we are nervous, frightened or stressed, but usually are constant. If the cortisol level is too high, then the result will be Cushing’s syndrome and if it is too low, it will result Addison’s disease. In a normal individual, cortisol levels are higher at day and go lower at night.

Cortisol also helps the liver produce glucose from sugars and also has the role of counteracting the insulin effect. The important roles of cortisol do not stop here: it is used for treating allergies and arthritis, so our health depends on it. All the complex chemical reactions in our body are very well related one to each other and cortisol is one of those substances that help a big part of those important reactions happen. So, the amount of stomach acid is increased by cortisol and it balances the sodium level from the small intestine. Cortisol is also important for increasing the effects that norepinephirine and adrenaline have upon our body and also the amount of the urine.

Cortisol levels are evaluated after urine and blood tests. A very increased level of cortisol is found in those people that suffer from Cushing’s syndrome, hyperthyroidism, obesity, stress or tumors, so it is very important to go to the doctor and to have all the necessary tests that will explain the way we feel or the symptoms we have. Cortisol levels can also be changed in those people that work at night, so we have to take into consideration all the potential factors that could change the cortisol level and say to the doctor all the symptoms we have or if our life has been more agitated than before.

Produced by the adrenal gland, cortisol is a hormone that is released as a response when a person is stressed, is afraid of something or when the blood glucocorticoids are not enough. Cortisol has important roles in our bodies as increasing the sugar level from blood, has an important role in the metabolism of fat protein and carbohydrates. It is also very useful for the development of lungs in babies, during pregnancy. The cortisol level is different, during the day time is more increased and decreases at night. High cortisol or low can be different depending on the health problems that people might have. Depression , autism, stress, fear, trauma, pain have a major influence on the level of high cortisol.

Although cortisol can vary, its levels are usually constant, but when a problem as ones the above appears, its level changes. Cortisol works in an interesting way, trying to adapt the body to different and hard situations it has to face. Cortisol also suppresses the immune system, but this is not all. Cortisol influences the renal secretion, controls the amount of water our body absorbs, affects the absorption of coper, potassium, sodium. More, cortisol has an impact upon insulin, gastric secretion and collagen. In our body is all about balance and cortisol is one of the hormones that can easily change the way everything works.

Extracted from the body, cortisol can be used to treat allergies, Addison disease and rheumatism. Cortisol helps us to have an improved short term memory, so when something unpleasant happens, next time we will keep in mind to avoid a certain situation, it is great the way everything works in our body. Is like a huge factory where everything depends on something else and nothing happens by hazard. One of the roles that cortisol has are the increasing of blood sugar and the suppressing of the immune system. More, it is important in the metabolism of fat, protein and carbohydrate.

The importance of cortisol has increased as it is used in curing different diseases. One of the diseases the cortisol can cure or makes them easier are Addison’s disease, inflammatory diseases, rheumatism, and allergies. The cortisol levels vary depending on the situation we are in or the mood we are in. In case we are stressed, then the level will increase. The most increased cortisol levels are in the morning and it decreases in the morning, at about 4 am. Cortisol levels also differ at the people who have autism or Asperger’s syndrome.

The cortisol can vary from one person to another, but usually the rhythms are constant. A constant increase cortison can determine psychological problems, especially of this happens on a longer period of time. Cortisol also stimulates the gastric acid, so has multiple roles in our body. In fact, our body is like a factory where everything is very well established and very organs knows what are its duties. When the equilibrium that is there disappears, then the problems start to appear, so it is good to stay calm and to have a healthy life. Stress, however, is the most dangerous enemy for our health. Cortisol, also known as hydrocortisone, is produced by the human body and is controlled by the brain. Cortisol is a steroid hormone, which is released when stress is experienced by an individual. In fact, cortisol is produced by the adrenal gland and when cortisol is being produced, the blood sugar in the human body is grown. Cortisol forming in a high level is not positive for the individual, as it can have serious consequences on the individual’s health, suppressing the immune system by affecting the white blood cells, and decreasing bone formation. In such situations, treatments must be administrated with the purpose to reduce the cortisol level.

However, although cortisol production in the human body is a natural process, the steroid hormone can also be used to treat some serious conditions, including different allergies, rheumatoid diseases, but also Addison illness.
